Chemical Peels in Castleton, NY
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
Improve the health of your skin with a chemical peel from Greenbush Skin Care Center in the East Greenbush, NY area. We provide our wonderful patients with medical-grade products that have chemical solutions (such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids) to reveal more radiant skin. You can have a skin assessment with our board-certified internist, Dr. Padma Sripada, to see if you would make an appropriate candidate for a chemical peel. Our aesthetic treatments can improve skin abnormalities like acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels work by removing dead and damaged skin cells with a personalized treatment on your skin, which causes the top layer to peel off. As your skin heals and begins to rejuvenate and repair itself, you should notice a smoother, clearer complexion.
We offer chemical peels in three strengths: light, medium, and deep.
- Light chemical peelsThis is a chemical peel that subtly exfoliates your skin by removing the outer layers of skin called the epidermis. You can have a light chemical peel more frequently than the deeper peels.
- Medium-depth chemical peelsWe increase the intensity of a medium-depth chemical peel to rejuvenate skin damaged with prominent wrinkles and darker pigmentation problems. You may want to have a medium-depth peel over a long, extended weekend if you are self-conscious about how your skin will look as it heals after this type of treatment.
- Deep peelsThe most aggressive chemical peels are called deep peels, which usually require anesthetic or some type of sedation prior to the treatment. These peels can cause your face to swell, peel, and itch for 2 - 3 weeks. You will have a longer recovery period (and may need to take some time off). Deep peels are for patients who have wrinkles, age or dark spots, sun-damaged skin, or entrenched acne scars.
CAN I HAVE A CHEMICAL PEEL?
A consultation with an aesthetic professional is the first step in the journey to healthier skin. A team member at Greenbush Skin Care Center can assess your skin during your consultation in our Castleton, NY office before selecting a chemical peel that is right for you. Chemical peel patients, both women and men, have visible concerns in their skin such as scars, flaky skin, discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and more. If you have these kinds of issues, we will suggest varying types of chemical peels to match your needs and concerns.
OUR CHEMICAL PEEL APPLICATION PROCESS
At your procedure at Greenbush Skin Care Center, we will have you lie down in a relaxed position before we administer your treatment. A team member will clean your skin prior to applying the personalized solution to your face and/or neck. Then, we will apply the solution to your skin and let it sit for a specific amount of time. Next, we will apply a neutralizing agent. After your treatment, we will explain how to care for your skin during your recovery period. You should bring something to wear to shield your skin from the sun after the peel to protect it from overexposure.
AFTER YOUR CHEMICAL PEEL
Depending on the level of the chemical peel you have, you can expect your skin to itch and flake off. This could last for a few days to two or more weeks. Dr. Padma or a member of her team will explain methods to care for your face during your consultation. Please keep in mind that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout your healing time, it is not a good idea to pick the skin off. Doing so could cause scarring to your skin! If you have questions or concerns about your skin post-peel, please feel free to reach out to our office.
CHEMICAL PEEL FAQ
How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Padma will talk about your costs in your consultation once she has come up with your custom treatment plan. The cost of a chemical peel can vary depending on the level you select. Greenbush Skin Care Center takes many payments methods, and there are often specials on treatments like chemical peels. Buying a package with several chemical peel treatments can also help you save money.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
The best chemical peel for you will vary based on your specific skin needs and cosmetic goals. In your initial consultation with Dr. Padma, she can help you decide which type of peel is right for your skin. Some factors you may want to consider are your overall health, the type of skin you have, how deep you want the peel to work, the time you can commit to recovery, and what you want the peel to accomplish. Initially, it's better to select a light chemical peel and decide what you think of the results. After this, you and Dr. Padma may tweak your treatment plan to decide the best chemical peel level for your skin.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Both dermabrasion and chemical peels are facial rejuvenation procedures that correct surface imperfections to give your skin a rejuvenated appearance. The major difference is that dermabrasion uses surgical tools (a rotating brush or shaving instrument ) to clear away the surface skin layer with a careful exfoliating process. A chemical peel applies a caustic solution to your skin to dissolve dead and damaged skin cells. In your consultation, Dr. Padma will go over the pros and cons of each and help you choose if dermabrasion or a chemical peel is better to achieve your skin goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Depending on the peel selected, you may feel mild discomfort during and shortly after your peel. If you get a lighter peel, you will notice a little stinging; however, it can be alleviated with a handheld fan. Medium and deep peels are good for deeper skin damage and offer results that last a long time; however, they usually cause greater discomfort. Numbing cream, skin medications, and soothing ointments may be applied to minimize your discomfort during the treatment. Dr. Padma or a member of her team will talk to you about skin care after your chemical peel to maintain your results.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
A chemical peel may be combined with another nonsurgical skin treatment at Greenbush Skin Care Center. In your initial consultation, be open with Dr. Padma about your skin wants so she can create a personalized treatment plan that delivers your best results. Your plan might include adding injectable wrinkle treatments (such as JUVÉDERM® or BOTOX®) along with your chemical peel to rejuvenate your entire appearance.
