IPL Photofacial

WHAT IS IPL?

Are you ready to see real results from your next facial treatment? We encourage you to ask about our IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacial if you have facial skin with dark spots, skin irregularities, or sun damage. At Greenbush Skin Care Center in the East Greenbush, NY area, we can offer you a skin examination to determine whether you would benefit from IPL.

A photofacial with IPL is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adults with highly visible hyperpigmentation concerns on the neck and face. An IPL photofacial may not be an invasive procedure, but it can be just as effective as the more invasive treatments to create impressive results. Our board-certified internist with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Padma Sripada, provides IPL sessions that heat the skin just enough for it to start its natural healing process and boost collagen production. In time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with a more even tone and decreased spots of hyperpigmentation. Contact our office in the Capital District today for an appointment.

CAN I HAVE AN IPL PHOTOFACIAL?

An IPL photofacial reaches the deeper layers of your skin to treat several complexion problems (particularly brown lesions and sun spots) with little or no recovery time. The best candidates for an IPL photofacial at Greenbush Skin Care Center may have a combination of problems with their complexion, including:

  • Age spots
  • Brown spots, freckles, or darkened areas of skin
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Rosacea
  • Dry, rough texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Melasma
  • Spider veins

Dr. Padma will examine your complexion to determine if you will benefit from a photofacial at your private consultation.

OUR IPL TECHNIQUE

IPL is done inside our Castleton, NY office in around 20 - 30 minutes in one of our treatment rooms. To start the process, we will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with eyelid shields. IPL is performed using a handheld device that passes over your skin while emitting pulses of laser energy. While many patients will have some discomfort throughout the IPL photofacial, it is generally tolerable. There is no recovery time associated with a photofacial, but you may leave your appointment with your skin a little red and swollen. This will go away on its own after several hours - it may be masked with makeup if you prefer. Greenbush Skin Care Center advises patients to apply a soothing serum to the treated skin to decrease any irritation and promote healing. It also helps to take an anti-inflammatory medication to ease swelling.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER IPL

Over the course of 2 - 5 days, the blemishes under the skin will come to the surface skin layers and then start to flake away. It's necessary to protect your skin with sunscreen as often as possible after an IPL photofacial and not pick at the flaking skin. While you will see some improvements after your first treatment, your skin will attain ideal results after several IPL treatments. For best results, Dr. Padma suggests most patients get 3 - 6 treatments performed about once a month at Greenbush Skin Care Center.
